2006 Brown Quarter Horse Stallion
Own son of Champion Racehorse Panther Mountain
I didn’t update Flyin Panther’s page until now ,,,,,,because my broken heart wouldn’t let me do it. Panther was euthanized in the last part of 2014 due to an irreparable knee injury. A huge part of our breeding program died with him,,,,,,not to mention the big piece of ME that went with him too. He was a special animal…a true piece of wonder in my life…….his foals are fantastic and I’m confident that everyone that purchased one is pleased. I will miss him all the rest of my life……that much I’m certain of. Life goes on, as we all well know, and the horse industry seldom spares one from the grief of horrible loss. Thank you Flyin Panther,,,,,,for the good times, and for all that you were and always will be to me…….I only wish that I could’ve kept you longer!!! God Speed Buddy…….I loved you well.
Flyin Panther arrived at Flying O Ranch in the spring of 2012. I had spent about half of the winter of 2011/2012 looking for a son of Champion Panther Mountain to compliment the breeding program. In the process I had found, purchased, and fallen in love with my daughter of Panther Mountain, the once in a lifetime broodmare Panther’s Princess, in foal to a Strawfly Special son when I purchased her. I ran across an ad for Flyin Panther that caught my eye and I kept going back to it……his well written pedigree was a huge part of what made him very interesting to me as his dam is a daughter of Strawfly Special. I’ve owned some Strawfly Special bred horses over the years and have always been impressed with their eye appeal and unique personalities. To own them, is to love them! (sometimes in spite of oneself) The speed and athletic ability are the bonus of course. And the Strawfly Special/Panther Mountain cross is a proven cross………so, I talked myself into it (not difficult) and Flyin Panther was mine.
Flyin Panther was bred to a small and diverse group of mares in 2012…..a ‘test’ breeding I suppose since he hadn’t sired any foals when I purchased him. In 2013 I was so pleasantly surprised when his foals arrived. They are beautiful babies with the “WOW” factor all over them. Flyin Panther stamped them all with the traits I was hoping he would pass on. They’re good looking and they know it! Correct, athletic and best of all…..they are smart and so easy to work with. Everyone that owns one has remarked on how personable, trainable and enjoyable they are.
“Panther,” as he’s affectionately known around the ranch, made the transition from race stable living to ranch living so easily and loves it here. He has the exceptional personality and disposition that Strawfly Special horses have, along with the eye appeal, and a ‘look’ that, in my opinion, belongs to Panther Mountain and his offspring…..a huge strong sloping shoulder, warm and gorgeous eyes,,,big hip, short strong back with a long underline, and that special thing called presence by many–the ‘look at me’ attitude that makes him and his foals stand out in a group of horses. Flyin Panther’s first crop of foals all went to new homes in 2013; many of them to barrel racers. The reviews from the new owners are so positive; I’m really looking forward to the 2014 foal crop by this outstanding horse and to their future in the arena. His foals are eligible for the ranch barrel incentive program.
Flyin Panther’s sire, Champion PANTHER MOUNTAIN, was sold to new owners in Brazil in 2008. Here’s a video of this incredible animal in his new environment :
