2000 Bay Quarter Horse Stallion
Son of Champion Racehorse Splash Bac and a producing daughter of barrel horse sire and All American Winner Merganser
To Be Announced, aka Chrome, came to Flying O Ranch in 2013. The first time I saw Chrome, he was a three year old, consigned to the Heritage Place Sale in Oklahoma City. I helped his then owner, a friend of mine, get him ready for the sale. I admit it, I wanted to buy him. Chrome is beautiful. He’s a big fancy stocking legged mahogany bay horse, wide strip on his face, and he has the prettiest head! He’s just about perfectly made, with super leg conformation, a huge hip, and every piece of him just fits together the way a good one should. I knew Chrome’s dam High Steppin Merg personally; what a gorgeous mare and great producer. She was the producer of several nice race horses, and a mare with a very strong pedigree being a daughter of Champion barrel, pole and race horse sire AND All American Futurity winner, Merganser, and out of an Azure Te daughter with a 108 speed index. Chrome’s sire is the beautiful AAA 2 Year old Champion Splash Bac. That’s all part of why I wanted to buy him….the rest of it is that I just loved the horse! But the guy sitting in front of me at the sale, Kelly Hildreth, had the last bid…..Chrome brought more cash than I could afford to spend that day. A few years ago I chatted with Kelly, and he was thinking about selling Chrome…..people’s lives change, and Kelly thought he might be interested in selling him. Our conversations continued, until last spring when he priced Chrome and I decided (finally) to buy him. Dreams do come true …..and the horse that stepped off that transport this past October is the horse I loved at Heritage Place ten years ago….he’s everything I remembered and more. I am so excited about his future here at Flying O Ranch!
Chrome’s a beautiful individual. He’s quiet, smart and super athletic. His foals are good barrel horses, rodeo horses, rope horses and all around ranch horses. I think he brings something special to the breeding program here. They will be eligible for our ranch barrel incentive program. I’ll share some pics of his foals here. His North Dakota born foals have all been sold to barrel racers and I’m getting excellent feedback on their great dispositions, athletic ability, speed, and trainability.
